President's Report

Dottie and I were very sorry to have missed you at the Golden Village Palms Rally, which I understand was a roaring success! Thank you to Gary & Sharon, Debbie & Juan for hosting, and especially to Gary for carrying the ball for me.
We look forward to seeing many of you at the Fall Rally in Grass Valley, where Immediate Past President Jim McPheters and his Nominating Committee will offer a slate of officers for you to vote on to serve the next two years, beginning at the Western Area Rally in Indio in January. More on that soon.
We just learned that FRVA (Formerly FMCA) is NOT having a Spring 2026 Rally in Tucson, where we have had pre or post-rallies in even-numbered years, so we need someone to host a late Spring—early Summer Rally, ideally somewhere with moderate temps! That’s a year from now, so what do you say, Romers?
John Van Doren, President
Vice President's Report

Hello Fellow Romers,

The Hemet Rally was a great success thanks to all that attended. We especially were pleased to have some of our new members attend. The Golden Village Palms Resort was very gracious and attentive to our last minute changes. Everyone enjoyed the shuffle board tournament and the Ramona Pageant. Of course every night the Romers Bar was open prior to dinner thanks to the efforts of our Bar Master, Juan Marquez with the help of our volunteer bartenders.
As a side note our Romers.club website is in transition and should be fully functional by the time of our Grass Valley Rally in September. I look forward to seeing everyone in Grass Valley Rally, September 17-21, hosted by Tony Sauer and Katherine Thompson. They have put together a wonderful agenda. You may check it out on our Romers Club website. The deadline for registration is July 15 so don't delay!

Golden Village Palms, Hemet: Spring Rally
Everyone was welcomed to our Spring Rally with their Welcome Packets explaining the several planned events. The weather was fantastic...not too hot, not too cold, just to this Editor's liking. The first night we had our traditional evening of Hors d'oeuvres and our wonderful bar, managed by Juan Marquez. (Thanks Juan)

On Friday, we had a Shuffleboard Tournament. It was the real deal with scoring, teams and a WINNER. Guess who the winners were...Joanne McPheters and Juan Marquez. They must have had the special touch, because the lanes were really slippery. It was a really good time. Then there was a Taco Bar for dinner.

Saturday, we had a big breakfast as we would be gone at lunchtime. It was the day of the Ramona Pageant, an outdoor performance. This was the 102nd year that the play has been set in the beautiful San Jacinto mountains. It is a love story about a beautiful Mexican girl and an Indian boy, not welcomed by her adopted mother. It was a lovely event and attended by all. Dinner was "on our own", as we did not know when we would get back to the campsite.

Sunday was a day to relax at which time we had our Membership meeting, group pictures and Tech Talk. After dinner we all stayed and played Card Bingo. The big winner was none other than Larry Johnson. However, I must say, we were all winners as it was so much fun. A big thanks to our Past President, Jim McPheters, for being the caller.
I would be remiss if I did not mention the wonderful swimming pools. Several of our members took advantage to swim and spend some time basking in the sun.
TECH TALK
After our General Membership Meeting on Sunday, most of the guys got together to share recent RV related issues. The following is a recap of our discussion:
Gary Margoles shared that the handles on his roof vents broke and needed the roof vent model number to order replacement parts from Fantastic Fan. There was a general discussion on the frequency to have oil and transmission fluid service. The basic guideline is annually but you should consult your engine maintenance manual. Jim Rynd noted that he installed and built lithium batteries on his coach. We all discussed the various steering stabilizer systems and the need to have front tires aligned prior to installation. Safety Plus and Super Steer were mentioned. Another item of interest concerned tire replacement which Dave Peterson recently experienced. He purchased 6 Hankook Tires for $4,200. There was also discussion on checking air pressure and pushing the valve out to make sure that there are no air leaks.
SUNSHINE
Don and Layne Strellic have had quite a year and have been missed at our last two rallies! Don had one knee replaced March 17th and is doing so well he is having the other knee replaced in June (didn't have the date when we talked). Layne had a PaceMaker placed last year. Unfortunately, she also had her Lung punctured, which has taken some time to heal. We are hoping to see them in Grass Valley.
The Wimberly's have had the same sort of year as the Strellic's. Gary Wimberly also had Knee replacement last October and his knee is doing fantastic. Unfortunately, he now has Neuropathiy in his hands and legs, which caused him to fall and hit his head, but he is doing well. Phyllis is doing well from her knee and hip replacement surgeries and in April had shoulder replacement. (She is now the bionic woman!). In April they had the RV painted...we sure would love to see it.

Blessings and prayers for Don, Layne, Gary and Phyllis. Take good care!!

The editor has placed all of this surgical information in the Sunshine section, because it seems everyone is doing as well as can be expected. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with them...in hopes that all continues to remain that way.

SHOWERS
We are sad to hear the 3 of our stalwart members are selling their rigs.
Duncan and Nancy Holt have sold theirs and have moved to a one story house, which will be great for Duncan.
Larry and Ellen Johnson have given up their Motor Homing days. Sadly, on their way home from Golden Village Palms they had a serious accident. Fortunately, they are ok, but the rig was not. Larry felt this was a sign to stop RVing.

Mike and Sharon Cress are selling their Motorhome, due to health issues. We are all thinking of you and hope you can get back camping with our group soon.

We certainly encourage them all to become associate members, as our happy Romers family would not be the same without each of them.

On another note, John VanDoren was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and has started a series of 4 weeks of daily radiation treatment. We pray that he handles the therapy well and that they are able to attend the Romers Grass Valley event. Also, John & Dottie were unable to attend our Golden Village, Hemet rally, as Dottie's sister had bilateral mastectomy, and had a golf cart mishap after returning home from the hospital, fracturing her pelvis. Her husband also received a concussion that required surgery. Fortunately, Dottie & John were able to spend several days helping them recuperate.
