Romers News:
Paso Robles -- 2026. Spring Rally

RALLY RECAP

We had 25 coaches and 3 cabins; in all 35 participants, including guests Tom & Lois Getzfrid (old time Romers) arrived on Wednesday 4/29. We re-connected, while sharing appetizers and the Famous Romers Bar.

On Thursday, after a light breakfast everyone went to the Estrella War Birds Museum and Woodland Auto Display where we had a guided tour outside to see aircraft from WWII, Vietnam, & Desert Storm. The Museum was last to view independently, then on to the Auto Display. There was even an RV from the early days of the automobile...sink and all. We were honored to have Bob Woodland on hand  to meet with us and answer questions.

In the afternoon Darryll, from J Lohr Winery brought 3 delicious wines, Pinot Blanc, Cabernet and a Rose, for a complimentary tasting at the clubhouse.  We finished a busy day  with a delicious meal from "Cool Hand Luke"s", followed by a lovely evening to socialize.

Friday, brought another light breakfast and an optional tour and tasting at the Firestone Walker Brewing Company.  The tour was quite interesting and the 805 brewery was pristine. We finished with tastings, of almost as many interesting different beers we wanted.  Many of us ate lunch at the brewery restaurant.  Other members visited the many wineries in the area and even a Mushroom Farm.  The day culminated with a club favorite of Card Bingo.

Saturday, after breakfast, we all attended the members meeting, took our club picture.  Then the Tech Talk, followed by free time, at which time many went to the club house to watch the Kentucky Derby. Janet Votaw won the Derby Hat contest, that members of the Atascadero Elks judged, after which they provided  a catered meal of Santa Maria style Tri Tip...yum.  Many thanks to the Atascadero Elks.  The rally ended after dinner and cleaning up.

THANK YOU TO ALL FOR PARTICIPATION IN A WONDERFUL RALLY!!!

A great Big Thanks to Jim and Susan Lewis, Janet Votow & John Rodriguez, and Kate Pryor & David Lee.

TECH TALK:

Jim McPeters inquired about how best to clean & seal Corian countertops.  Some said they'd see what they used.  A few simply said, with "nothing special as it is just stone chips & epoxy".  So, common cleaners & possibly "pink Stuff" from Lowes.

John VanDoren has water dripping inside from the front roof AC.  Possible causes are iced coils in high humidity, combined with plugged drain tubes, cracked pan, loose (or over-tightened) mounting bolts.

Diesel Fuel Additives:

Cummins says no. "Dave's Secret Sauce" can increase MPG? $50 for 6 x 11/2pint botles; 3/tank.

Gary going to Alaska

TPMS (trip pre maintenance service)? YES-must have!

Air up tires via on-board compressor? For some of us, No can do!  Solution:  Get Viair portable compressor or their "Air Doubler" as Jjohn has

CARB & it's Evil Twin:  Clean Truck Check (AKA Smog) $30/year fee program.  Inspectors required of all diesel engines-commercial (2X/yr,) & recreational (annually).  Newer via OBD port, older Opacity test via exhaust. $250 money grab!

LiFePo4 (Lithium) Batteries Lithium Hub now sells Ionic brand, starter (only, not "so called dual purpose) batteries.  John just bought their diesel truck model with 3000 CA (cranking amps).  One group 31 LiFePo4 replaced the 2 AGMs so he filled the empty spot with a 5th BB 100AH house battery, to soak up juice from his new 960W Solar array.   Boondocks R Us!

PS:  A fellow MH owner & friend of John's say John doesn't need a 500AH battery bank.

(If this editor knows Bryan, the friend, and I do, that was a bit of sarcasm.  Bryan has one Epic battery, 760AH)

Thank you John for  remembering this much of the Tech Talk

SUNSHINE AND SHOWERS

Mike Cress:  We are saddened by the passing of Mike on March 27th, 2026.  He had struggled with cancer for sometime.  He and Sharon were members of Romers since 2014.  Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Sharon.

Jeff Preach:  Had a heart valve replaced, did well, but got an infection which landed him in the hospital for 11 days.  He is now at home on the mend. Thank you Tom Getzfrid for helping him get it all under control.  We certainly hope we will see him in Tulare next April at the WRVA Rally

Gail Horowitz:  Has a lot happening right now, which is why they were unable to attend Paso Robles.  She and Allen were sure missed.  She had a bilateral pulmonary embolism, requiring surgery.  She is sure keeping her hopes up that she can make it to  her grandson's weeding in Mallorca, Spain and a Birthday cruise.  Our prayers are certainly with them.

Julie Burger:  Who recently retired as the Central Area Vice President of the Western RV Association due to health concerns.  She sprained her left wrist getting off the camel at Indio, then broke her right arm dumping her black tank, now both arms are out of commission.  Lucky (!!?) for her Jim McDaniels drove her rig to storage at Indio Elks!.   Then there was a car accident, with several fractures, sprains & a neck injury,  BUT, she walked away!!!  All of this rendered her unable to do much of anything.  She is now on the mend and hoping to continue her active lifestyle.  She and we hope she can be with us in the fall.  Get well Julie!!!

Nancy Holt:  We continue to keep Nancy in our prayers after losing Duncan.  We miss their participation, encouragement and love.   We continue to keep our hopes up that we see her occasionally.

It seems we had many Shower reports and no reports of Sunshines.  Please let us know the fun/happy stuff too!!
